Auricular Acupuncture
What is Auricular, or Ear Acupuncture?
Auricular (Ear) Acupuncture has historically been used in China, but modern times have produced much refinement in this technique.
Virtually any area, limb, organ or disease in the body can be treated with auricular acupuncture, generally as an adjunct to body acupuncture. The areas of the ear corresponding with different areas of the body have been extensively mapped and tested.
Needles may be used on the point and retained for about 15 minutes; or tiny metal balls (called ‘earseeds’) may be taped to the point and left for 2 – 3 days, after which the patient is instructed to remove them.
NADA protocol, a series of five points, is commonly used to treat addiction of all types. Alcohol and drug addiction, smoking or even overeating due to craving can be addressed. Of course, the patient’s cooperation in staying away from the substance is required!
